Effectual grace
God's saving grace works effectively in the conversion of the elect.
What it is: Effectual grace teaches that God acts in a real and effective way to bring to faith those whom he intends to save.
How the religion understands it: The call of the gospel is proclaimed broadly, but the inward action of the Spirit in regeneration is seen as effective in producing a response of faith. This does not eliminate the human dimension of conversion, but grounds it in divine initiative.
Context: This formulation is typical of classic Calvinist soteriology.
